Semele, daughter of Cadmus and Harmony, beloved of Jupiter, conceives a child. The terrible Juno, angry and blinded by jealousy, decides to punish the girl by the outrage caused and assumes the appearance of old Beroe, nurse of Semele. The queen of the gods thus appears to Semele, who, believing her mother, begins to talk to her until the conversation about the king of the gods. Beroe then warns the girl not to trust the god and the calls for him requires proof of his true identity, suggesting that Jupiter's request to appear before it as it does with Juno.
After some time, Semele, remembering the words of the old, ask to Jupiter, which offers a gift, and God promises to give her what she wants. So Semele begs to be revealed in all its power. Jupiter, in desperation, was forced to perform what has been asked and introduces himself armed with his ray Semele. She could not stand the huge blaze, burn.
